Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, or a "tummy tuck," is designed to correct a protruding abdomen resulting from weak abdominal muscles, weight gain or pregnancy. Obesity causes the skin to lose its elasticity. These conditions may not respond well to diet or exercise if the skin and underlying muscles have been stretched.

With abdominoplasty, the abdominal wall muscles are tightened and excess fatty tissue and skin are removed to improve the body contour. The goal is a narrower, flatter abdomen. Realistic expectations are important. Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss.

Dr. Soueid considers age, obesity and smoking habits when evaluating a candidate for this procedure

You may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Excess or sagging abdominal skin.
  • An abdomen that protrudes and is out of proportion to the rest of your body.
  • Abdominal muscles that have been separated and weakened (rectus diastasis).
  • Excess fatty tissue that is concentrated in your abdominal area (fat pads).

Abdominal Etching

Abdominal etching is a technique using differential liposculpture where detailed body fat is removed enhancing the shapely figure of the underlying muscles of the abdomen.  These muscles are typically unseen or smothered under 1 to 2 inches of fat.  The goal with this procedure is to create the so-called "six-pack" abdomen.  Candidates for abdominal etching are highly disciplined males who work out daily and maintain a low fat diet.  To achieve the washboard abdomen, deep, intermediate, and superficial liposuction are used.  The procedure has been performed in females, but leaves a somewhat unnatural look.

The Body Lift

The body lift procedure is designed to treat excess fat and saggy skin of the torso, hip and thigh regions. Classically, these patients have a pear-shaped body and accumulate fat and excess skin in the mid to lower abdominal area, flanks, back, hips and outer thighs. Frequently, severe sagginess is identified in the hips and outer thigh area, which is effectively lifted and repositioned into a more aesthetic and youthful position with this procedure. Any sagginess that occurs in the pubic region and genitalia is also treated at the time of body lift. Several weeks before surgery, all patients receive an extensive medical and metabolic analysis. The day before surgery, patients are asked to come into the office for markings. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to completely mark and prepare a patient for the next day's surgery. Once marked, the special ink used will not come off and patients can take a shower with Hibiclens® to reduce the chances of infection. These markings are reinforced with the same ink pen the morning of surgery.

Dr. Soueid  performs body lift procedures in a hospital setting and keeps patients in the facility overnight. All patients are expected to walk the evening of surgery. The next morning, a soft diet is started only after the patient gets out of bed and walks 20 paces.

Thigh Reduction and Thigh Lift

Thigh reduction procedures are needed in patients with excessive skin and fat tissues in the inner thighs. After massive weight loss, inner thigh skin and fat can become excessively loose and flabby. The goal with thigh reduction is to tighten the skin and remove any excess tissue. Some patients have fat/skin tissue that descends way down past their knees and these procedures are tailor-made, to account for the various levels of excess. Some patients may need a small horizontal and vertical excision high in the upper thigh area, while others require longer incisions that sometimes go past the knees. It is important to appreciate that patients requiring longer incisions had been heavier than those who require smaller incisions to have a good outcome. After the procedure many patients find that the thighs have been lifted into a more youthful and attractive position.

Dr. Soueid performs thigh reduction and lift procedures in a hospital setting and keeps patients in the facility overnight. All patients are expected to walk the evening of surgery. The next morning, a soft diet is started only after the patient gets out of bed and walks 20 paces.

Arm Lift or Brachioplasty

The arm lift procedure or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. With age, upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. The goal with brachioplasty is to tighten the skin and remove the excess fat tissue. In some cases your plastic surgeon may suggest that liposuction be used alone or in conjunction with an arm lift to remove excess fat in the upper arms.

Buttock Enhancement with Fat Grafting or Implants

Enhancement of the buttocks can be accomplished through implants or by fat transfer. The implants used in this case are similar to breast implants, except that they are solid. No fluid is placed in the implant. The type of silicone will not leak out. Implants come in various sizes and depending on needs, an appropriate size will be decided between you and your surgeon. Patients who are thin are good candidates for buttock implants. Patients, who have adequate fatty tissue to donate for buttock enhancement, will be better served by fat transfer augmentation. Structural fat transfer for buttock enhancement is commonly known as the Brazilian method of buttock enhancement.
